Redditor Calls Out Karan Johar For Glorifying Infidelity In RRPK; Kickstarts Debate Among Fans
Karan Johar’s recently released film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is going strong at the box office. Starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in lead roles, the film has become a talking point because of another couple. This romantic comedy features Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi as long-lost lovers. (Spoilers ahead!)
As the movie proceeds, the duo who are married to someone else are seen reuniting to embrace their love for each other.
Where Shabana’s character of Jamini has come out of a bad relationship filled with violence and abuse, Dharmendra as Kawal has a weak memory for years. When they met in the movie, things go all gaga as they even share a kiss onscreen. This whole scenario has kickstarted a debate about adultery and infidelity.
A Reddit user called out KJo for glorifying cheating in this film and we just can’t unsee how people are reacting.
The Redditor shared a screenshot of a tweet with the caption, “Can we stop normalizing adultery!”. The original tweet read, “Karan Johar and his obsession with infidelity is sickening! Please don’t watch RRPK if you’re triggered by adultery, this movie has not only glorified but also JUSTIFIED infidelity! Cheating is never okay, no matter how unhappy you are in your relationship.”

While some people slammed Karan’s glorification, some schooled the user to not take films too seriously.
One wrote, “What’s worse than cheating is abuse - mental and emotional included. And using children and money and society to keep you tied to the marriage. But that’s so normalized, no one even talks about it and it’s just accepted as ‘marriage.’"
Another said, “I hundred per cent agree that K Jo and to an extent, Zoya very much justify cheating. Especially KJo justifies it in almost every movie ie KANK. But with that being said the way he did it in Rocky Aur Rani was very intriguing and empathetic. Cause yes one should never cheat but especially Shabana’s character was in an abusive marriage, and compared to her abusive husband in comes Dharmendra. Like I get why people are saying it’s glorification but in any media, this movie was one of the best most human portrayals of cheating.”
“Are you guys children? This is a movie + characters in movies don’t have to be morally 'good'."
Another user said that they are not okay with the normalisation of toxic marriages.
“Most people don't know how difficult it is getting out of a relationship especially marriage in a conservative setting and also the feeling that your life is ending one day at a time and how we are wasting time stuck in a relationship which isn't going anywhere.”
